Community Group Questions
This morning we conclude our 3-week Christmas series “What Child is This?” as we continue to answer one of the most important questions we could ever ask. Over the past two weeks we have seen that this child is the fulfillment of God’s promise. This child was born to be King, and this child is the savior of all mankind.
Today we look at one of the most fundamental truths in all of Christianity. That is that this child is not just a baby that was sent to save his people, but this child is God made flesh to dwell among us. This child is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Read: Philippians 2:5-11, Isaiah 9:6-7, John 1:1-14, Isaiah 7:13-15
Discuss:
1. In what ways have you been able to slow down a bit this Christmas season and meditate on the amazing gift we have been given in Christ the savior? (If you haven’t, feel free to ignore all further questions and do it right now!)
2. Read Philippians 2:3-5. What does Paul mean when he says, “Have this mind among yourselves which is yours in Christ Jesus”?
3. The incarnation is one of the most mind blowing yet fundamental truths in Christianity. What does it say about God that He would step into humanity and “dwell among us”? What comfort does it bring knowing that He desires to be close to us?
4. Read Philippians 2:6-11. Christmas is of course the time we celebrate the birth of Christ. But in order for us to truly appreciate the magnitude of His arrival, we need to see beyond the nativity. How can seeing Christ’s arrival in the grand scheme of eternity give us a greater understanding of who he is?
Memorize/Meditate: Galatians 4:4-5 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
