This week we begin our new sermon series "What Child is This?" where we will explore the incredible true story of God stepping into humanity in the person of Jesus Christ, being fully man, and fully GOD!
We begin by looking at the mind blowing evidence of God's sovereignty throughout history as we see that Jesus is the only one qualified to sit on the throne as The KING of KINGS!
Read: Matthew 1 :1-17 (Good luck!), Micah 5:2, Acts 2:36, Genesis 3:15, 2 Samuel 7:12-13, Isaiah 9:7, Romans 1:1-4
Discuss:
1 . What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions from when you were a kid? Have any of them stuck around into adulthood?
2. Have you ever spent much time thinking about the importance of Christ's genealogy?
Why is it such a big deal that Matthew included it in his gospel?
3. As we look at the genealogy of Christ we see a vivid picture of God's sovereign plan woven throughout history. What does this say of His goodness· and His love for His children?
4. If we are honest, the "Christmas story" often becomes background music to an overly busy season of expectations. How can we intentionally avoid that this year?
Memorize/Meditate: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). Matthew 1 :23
