This week we conclude our 8-week sermon series “Standing Firm on the Promises of God.” We began our series by looking at Matthew 7:24-27 where Jesus tells those who were following Him that everyone who hears His words and does them will be like a wise man who builds his house on a rock. There is great wisdom, and great blessing that comes when we follow the words of Christ, and when we put that faith into action by truly trusting God’s promises. But what is the ultimate purpose of God's promises played out in our lives? Is it only for our blessing, or is there something greater?
This week we look at 2 Peter 1:3-11 as Peter tells us not only by who’s power these promises have been granted to us, but also for what purpose. That since God's promises are true, by faith we can share in His divine nature. By this Peter means that we are truly united with Christ and made new for His glory!
2 Peter 1:3-4 "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire."
